Dental Labs Costs from Dentist's Perspective, by Dr. Daniel Sisniegas, DDS

Dr. Daniel Sisniegas, DDS Discusses Dental Lab Costs from a Dentist's Perspective

As a dentist, who understands about the importance of running a dental office as a business, I categorize lab costs from two different perspectives.

1.Lab cost as an opportunity to save money. Dentists who have this perspective are not good clients, they are always looking for the cheapest price and would change their lab service for anyone who can do the job for less.

2. Lab cost as an investment. This perspective is what you are looking for. A dentist who understands that
quality work and excellent client service are the best choice to improve our relationship with the patient. A long term profitable relation. You may have noticed, your client’s perspective is the key when you are trying to establish the price. You can’t go to a dentists who is interested in cheap work with a value product. So,whatever you market is, you have to know your client’s requirements to establish the quality of your product and client service level will be reflected in your price. But, what can I do if my market is pushing down the price? When the market, meaning your clients, push down the price, you have to look inside your business to optimize your resources and reduce your costs, not reduce your quality to a barely legal level. There are many strategies to reduce your sell price before reducing your quality, like outsourcing services, buy second hand technology, buy at wholesaler’s prices to reduce costs, standardize operations and delivery time.
